Residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation consists of 1 year of general clinical training (internship / PGY1) followed by three years of physical medicine and rehabilitation training (PGY2-4). Most residents complete a preliminary medicine, transitional, or surgical internship to fulfill this requirement. The Johns Hopkins Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides a three-year (PGY2-4) residency program with extensive training in the evidence-based diagnosis, care and treatment of patients with disabilities. Our goal is to train leaders in the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation. The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine Residency Training Program recognizes that a sound academic and clinical education must be carefully planned and balanced with concerns for patient safety and resident well-being. Learning objectives of the program must not be compromised by excessive reliance on residents to fulfill service obligations. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency As one of the preeminent departments of physical medicine and rehabilitation in the United States, the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation excels in clinical care, and education, leading to optimum quality of life for individuals with physical disabilities.
